It's once again collection update time, and this time I've got some special stuff to show. Let's get started.
Astra: Lost in Space vol. 5 (Finnish edition)
I've been collecting Astra since it started being published here in Finland last August, and I'm pleased to finally have completed my collection. I originally watched the anime back when it was airing in 2019 (through... less than desirable means as it wasn't simulcast on any official service in Finland) and while I kinda liked it, it didn't really become a favourite of mine. However, last year I rewatched it right before the manga's Finnish run began, and I loved it. So, now I have all of it in manga form, as well as the British blu-ray release of the anime. Excellent feel-good shonen series, which is something that I think we all need during these difficult times.
(Bought from my local supermarket on Sun, Apr 10th, for €7.90.)
Violet Evergarden (UK Collector's Edition Blu-ray)
I originally didn't think I would ever get this CE due to its high price, but when Anime Limited's easter sale began and I saw it with a huge discount, I acted lightning-fast and ordered it just before it was sold out. There were some complications with the delivery but it did arrive and it looks great. Lots of cool extras, including a thick artbook filled with designs, storyboards and lore, art cards packaged in a stylish envelope, and the never-before-seen-in-the-west compilation films that got an amaray case of their own. Definitely worth the money, even if shipping costs and import taxes ended up fattening the price quite a lot.
(Ordered from All the Anime on Mon, Apr 11th, for £40.66 (incl. shipping). Arrived on Tue, Apr 19th.)
Kaiju No. 8 vol. 2 (English edition)
The second English volume of Kaiju was released so I bought it to join the first volume in my collection. I do wonder if there's much sense for me to keep buying every new volume though, since all chapters continue to be freely available on Manga Plus and it's not like I'm planning to reread the whole series anytime soon. But, on the other hand, these high-quality Viz volumes do look good on the shelf and they're not too expensive. Regardless, good manga that I still keep up with biweekly and can definitely recommend to other people too.
(Ordered from Fantasiapelit on Sun, Apr 24th, for €15.00 (incl. shipping). Arrived on Tue, Apr 26th.)
Made in Abyss: Season 1 (UK Blu-ray)
And last - but certainly not least - is an anime that I enjoyed tremendously when I first watched it in late 2020, and that I now can't rewatch in preparation for the upcoming season 2 because I cancelled my Wakanim subscription and it hasn't been transferred to Crunchyroll for whatever reason. Which is why I bought the BD, so that I can rewatch it whenever I want to without having to worry about streaming services. Nothing special really to say about this release - first MVM release in my collection, uses Madman's discs and Sentai's subs (yellow, ew), lots of extras on the second disc. I'll probably get the UKBD of the Dawn of the Deep Soul movie at some point too. By the way, it's quite amusing how the packaging tries to make it look like a cutesy show, while the 15+ age rating at the bottom is talking about "strong violence" and "injury detail". This anime is not for kids.
(Ordered from Amazon UK on Mon, May 5th, for £33.58 (incl. shipping). Arrived on Tue, May 10th.)
And that's it for this update! I also bought the 99th Finnish volume of One Piece since it was released this month and I want to have the big 99-100-101 trio on my shelf even if I'm still 40 volumes behind. Naturally didn't take any pics to keep myself from getting spoiled from the back cover text.
