Around 20th Birthday and New Horizons

A lot has happened since I last updated this blog. I went and touched grass (well, snow for over half of it - dear god it was cold this winter) and served 165 days (fairly standard length for rank-and-file soldiers) in the army. With my citizen's duty now fulfilled, I'm a free man once again, at least until that dim-witted dictator on the other side of our eastern border decides to mess with us. If that happens, Signalsman [redacted] may have to grab an assault rifle again. Here's hoping that never happens.

With that out of the way, it's time for some more long-lasting big changes in my life. First of all: I'm now in my 20s! As of today. Happy Around 20th Birthday to me, yeah~ (as you can see, still a brainrotted Laurant). Secondly: I'm going to university! In a different city! Since it'd be a bit of a long commute, the third thing is that I'm moving on my own for the first time in my life!

In fact, I'm celebrating my birthday in the middle of packing my things and getting ready to move. It hasn't really kicked in yet that I'm about to live on my own... I've technically been an adult for two years but this is going to be the big rite of passage.

What that means is that I'll have to start doing Adult Stuff which will likely eat up a lot of my time. And money. So the days of careless spending are over for me. As are the days of scrolling Twitter for hours. (No, I'm still not calling it X.) Of course I'll still watch anime and do all sorts of weeb stuff, but maybe in lesser quantities from now on. I managed to read the entirety of Higurashi before this move, and I'm planning to start Umineko once I get used to living on my own.

What makes this birthday even more special is that it's also the release date of Linked Horizon's final Attack on Titan release, the Shingeki no Kioku album. AoT has a very special place in my heart, not least because it introduced me to Revo's music. So, to have the last chapter of that journey be released on my 20th birthday... I feel actually honoured. Which is part of why I pre-ordered the special edition. I got the shipping notification just hours ago and can't wait to have it in my hands.

So, with that, I'm closing out this birthday blog post. Thank you to everyone who's wished me happy birthday on Twitter and Discord - I'm happy to be part of such a friendly community. I may end up in all sorts of circles in the student life in Tampere, but my fandom home will always be the Sound Horizon Kingdom.
